21st-Jul-2008 03:44 pm - Firefox: multiple profiles / bookmarks
easter kitty
Ok. I was in the middle of writing this post when I spotted the news on the Chrono Trigger remake. Got majorly sidetracked of course. Random useless info forthcoming. Hope it's useful to someone at least.

Where are your bookmarks in Firefox 3
For those who 1) use Firefox and 2) reformat their PC on a regular basis, then you're probably used to backing up your bookmarks by backing up the bookmarks.html from your Firefox profiles folder. Now for those who already upgraded to Firefox 3, it actually handles bookmarks differently than the previous versions. Bookmarks are now stored in the places.sqlite file found on the same folder as bookmarks.html.

I did not know this when I reformatted my PC a month ago. It's a good thing I tend to backup the entire profiles folder. Once I have the fresh install though I tend to only copy back my bookmarks.html file, so I spent a good 10-20 minutes being annoyed when no matter what I did, Firefox wouldn't update my bookmarks when the correct bookmarks.html was already copied into the profiles folder.

So yes, remember kids, places.sqlite has your bookmarks now. If you want to set up Firefox so that it updates both the sql db and the bookmarks.html file, you can learn how to do so here.

How to open multiple profiles in Firefox at the same time
Debi and Em have asked me about this before, but it's always when they're over at my place and always in passing. I use 5 profiles for Firefox, each designated for a particular task. One is for normal use, one is for handling downloads, another for surfing art sites, etc.etc. I just find it much easier to handle tabs and bookmarks this way.

Now Firefox normally doesn't give you the option to open two profiles at the same time, but you can override this by using the firefox -no-remote -ProfileManager string on the command line. This will pop up the profile manager for Firefox, and let you open another profile while a current one is still running.

You can also update the Target field on a shortcut icon on your desktop/quick launch with the same command so that it pops up the profile manager without you having to go to the command line.

Like so:

ETA: BTW, if you're not using Firefox... WHY NOT?! D:

[rob] shame on you!
1. E-mail address. Recently moved webhosts and I've not gotten around to setting up certain e-mail addresses. So for the meantime, I've reactivated my livejournal address (and it's been spam free so far, so I'll probably keep it activated) so people no longer have to wonder which email address I'm currently using.

2. Tokyo Game Show 2006. Ganked from [info]maiki. [Some of the rumored PS3 game titles set to show at this year's TGS.] A sequel to Shadow of the Colossus. SO THERE. And, and Fatal Frame 4. May dalawang magkapatid na lalaki. The end. *is killed by [info]embai, [info]bathala, [info]kitsune_jade and cugami* Okay, I understand nobody will get that unless 1) You speak Tagalog and 2) You know what my UBERDETAILEDFAILPROOFPLOT for Fatal Frame 3 was when we were discussing possible sequels after we played FF2. Since MY STORY DID NOT HAPPEN in FF3, I give it another chance! Srsly.

I am not translating that, because I do not need to prove further to my flist what a perverted dork I am.

Also included in the rumor mill is Kingdom Hearts 3. Note that none of these have been confirmed, but the possibility of a Colossus sequel ♥! And yaoicesty pr0n goodness Fatal Frame 4! And Silent Hill 5! And who would not die for new footage of Assassin's Creed and DMC4. Here's to hoping that there is new footage/trailers.

3. Bastardisation of the English language, ie. internet lingo. I have seen the term 'Srsly' used for a long time now, and for some reason, I always used to read this as 'surely' until I realized just a month or so ago that hoh look, there's a stray S in the middle. So I have obviously been reading this all wrong, and while I never really knew what it was supposed to mean, I just assumed that it meant 'seriously', because I am a genius mofo like that. I saw it again while browsing my flist earlier and decided I should not count on my genius deductions and look it up, or more to the point, to find out where the hell it came from. So in case you are like me and did not know what the term 'Srsly' meant until a few minutes ago, here's a link to Encyclopedia Dramatica's enlightening entry to the term. [SRSLY].
11th-May-2006 12:10 am - my prince sounds like a squealing hamster
[bucky] foot in mouth
(I should really remember to go back and change my voice set next time I'm at HQ.)

♠ I did a search in google for my name to see what incriminating things people would stumble upon if they ever decided to search for it, and I happened upon really old ML archives, like the Pinoy Otaku Fanfiction Mailing List. Aaah! Those were the days. It was amusing to read posts from people I did not know back then and whom I've now known for years. [info]kitsune_jade cugami (oh back in the days when you were using michiru) [info]balatstar [info]slaves [info]team7 [info]charlesatan, and a lot of other people that I'm no longer in touch with. This archive dates all the way back to 2000! It's almost embarassing to read. :D Man, I don't even want to dig through the POML or the PYML, I bet it'd be even more embarassing.

♠ Anyway, back to my initial dilemma that led me to this abomination of the past. I promised a cousin I'd share a bunch of stuff with him, except it's a bit too big to send via email, so I need to upload it to the web. I don't particularly want my cousin to trace my activities online (he knows I like yaoi, but he's younger than me and I'm trying to be a proper older cousin here that's trying very hard to keep from corrupting her younger cousin. He's asked me a number of times to see my yaoi manga, and I'm like just.. NO. My field of corruption has its limits.)

Back to the point, would anyone know of a free redirect service that hides even the URL while you're downloading stuff? It would be kind of useless for me to mask my main URL, when he'd find out my domain anyway once he downloads the files. I realize I'm being overly cautious, but well, I do like to keep some things in my life separate, this being one of them.

♠ So I finally got around to watching Advent Children, because I really needed HDD space. The moment I fangirled over the most? When Marlene hides under Vincent's cape. So cute. :D It's really just one huge, very pretty "canon fanfic" (gotta love how SquareEnix forces oxymorons on you), isn't it? Also watched the movies AonE released from the Dirge of Cerberus game. It was fun enough to watch, but I ask, wtf is up with that last scene after the credits with Gackt? =///// *is so disturbed!*

♠ Finished Suikoden V a few days ago. As luck would have it, my tv's picture tube gave out just as I was in the final dungeon. So I had to move rooms just to finish the game. I pretty much rushed through the last leg without bothering to level/fix equipment, since I just wanted to see the ending. The last dungeon was a bit of a pain to get through because of it, but at least I finished it. XD Though now without my tv, my gaming hours have been cut back considerably. Redoing the last leg to level characters up some more (I haven't played with everyone yet!), and to make more potch for new game+.

minor ending spoilers )

tarebath!
Link grabbed from [info]yukihyou. Most awesome thing ever.

Gaming at a whole new level. Laughed so hard. <3

ETA: Why do I keep seeing KH2 posts on my friends list and no SuikoV? My flist fails me. ;___;
2nd-Oct-2005 11:32 pm - I have no appropriate subject for sheer randomness
oh shit!
1. Would anyone happen to know how to fix your styles so that when looking at your tags list it doesn't use this fugly style? It seems this should be automatic with S2 styles, but I edited my S2 style layers before the tags were put into place, maybe I just have to redo everything.

2. So after two months of not really watching anything, have decided to slowly catch up with old series' I'm behind in. Watched until episode 20 of Honey and Clover and upto 18 of Eyeshield 21 (though I skipped a few eps in ES21, I did catch up with the manga). I don't want to watch anymore HnC until the last 2 episodes are out and subbed. BTW, can anyone tell me whether the HachiKuro manga is finished at 8 volumes or whether it's still ongoing?

I might decide to finish watching FMA once and for all, since someone has been nagging me to finish watching it and I don't really have a lot of space left on my HD to be going on a download spree. I need to buy a dvd-writer so bad. >.> Extreme download spree once I get one! <3 (My priorities of things I should buy keep changing.)

3. I started re-playing FF7 a week or two ago, then I abandoned it to finish Shadow Hearts: Covenant and now that I was going to play FF7 again the disc hangs before the game even loads... Someone up there doesn't want me to watch AC. ;P That aside, I've started playing Wild Arms, since I never played it, and cugami's Wild Arms 1 & 2 games happen to be with me. Yey for pixelized art. Cecilia's sprite dances after every battle, I find it really cute so I end up watching it a lot. XD

Playing old games make me realize just how much the analog stick has spoiled me. I can never play for too long because I feel like I'm straining my hand when using the directional buttons. This almost makes me consider replaying Chrono Trigger on the SNES sim instead of playing the PS1 version on the console.

4. Has anyone seen the newest trailer for Xenosaga III? I wasn't really that excited about the game before, but omfgabel. ;_; Now I want it very badly.

5. There's a group actually subbing [Tonde Boorin] (Or Tonde Buurin? Heck, I know it as Super Boink! lol. :P). <3 I never saw the ending of this series, now I can! I hope they finish subbing it.

6. I never have the patience to sit down and actually write a long post about a particular topic, so what happens is that during the course of a week (or more), whenever something comes up that I actually want to talk about, I'll open my semagic client and write it down. If the post is too short, I won't post it and then I'll wait for the next time I have something else I want to say. Sometimes, I will delete the entire thing and not post at all, sometimes, like right now, I will decide to post it. Hence, this post actually took me a week and a half to write. XD
17th-Jul-2005 03:36 pm - babble nobody would care about becuase they're all reading HPB6
[dds] boys will be boys
[ 1 ] I had churros with nummy hot chocolate dip, a cup of rich cocoa sprinkled with cinnammon, and a glass of cold mocha frappucino in the space of an hour the other night. That was more than 48 hours ago, my stomach is still recovering. >.< The site of food is enough to make my tummy want to cry. I am hungry. This actually happens nearly every time I have a frap, but I suppose the chocolate made it worst. I can be stubborn like that.

My friend insisted that we play the Crash & Quick arcade game, which is basically a quick draw game with four stages wherein you try to get the fastest time in shooting down all the targets. I didn't want to, but he insisted and dared to see if I could beat him. *eyebrow* I beat him at 6.38 seconds, which isn't actually my fastest time because I used to play this game a lot at Glorietta and my fastest time was 4.3, but only after I'd spent a small fortune playing it. See, I don't like playing at the arcade, but give me a nice shooting game and I can spend money and time playing it. Others find this surprising, as when it comes to console or PC games, I dislike shooting games like Counterstrike, Halo, etc.

[ 2 ] For some reason So I've been getting messages via IMs and SMS asking whether I'd gotten my HP book yet and/or to tell me they'd gotten theirs already. The answer is no. I don't buy the books, but I do read my sister's copy (she got her book yesterday). When HP book 5 came out previously, I was forced to read through the book rather quickly because my cousin shoved it at me when I wasn't even looking to borrow it. I thought it impolite to refuse.

It will probably be a while before I even start reading book 6, as I'm in the middle of reading something else. This is just a heads up so that people stop asking and I can stop getting, 'Oh's and 'Why not?'s cause I hate to trample on people's enthusiasm. It completely kills the conversation. :P Though I don't think I should be worrying about this now, as people seem to simply not be going online anymore. *eyebrows at only 9 people online on her buddylist*

[ 3 ] I've lined up all the unfinished games I have on the backburner and refuse to start a new game before I go through the whole list. Which means I've picked up .hack//mutation again and will consider the entire series as one game. My list consists of the following:

1. .hack series
2. Kingdom Hearts (>.<)
3: Star Ocean 3 'Til the End of Time (optional dungeons)
4. Xenosaga II (optional dungeons)
5. Shining Tears
6. Arc the Lad: End of Darkness (ungh.)

Will be playing SMT: Nocturne (not finished), my second playthrough of Digital Devil Saga (to get to Hitoshura) and the nth playthrough of Demento (to finish the movies list) to keep me sane while doing this. Although it's only Kingdom Hearts and Arc the Lad which i'm not looking forward to playing at all anyway.

I keep forgetting to buy a 36mb memory card. =/ I have 650kb left on my current one.

Speaking of memory space, I wish there was a way for game companies to make clear game saves smaller. I have a ton of them which I don't want to delete, so they're just sitting there taking up space. I am boggled by the 33kb save slots that the Xenosaga game takes up. I wish all games took up that much.

[ 4 ] I have been sucked into Gaia Online. "WTF?!" you say. Yea, I can't believe it either. -_- Well, I can fish, and that's all that matters. ^____^ And I can make gold.

Real men wear pink-rimmed glasses
You know it's time to start burning anime episodes to CD when your 80gb hardrive only has 857mb of free space left.

(And this is why I used to have three separate physical drives... until the second one burnt out.)

Real men wear pink-rimmed glasses
so booored! Give me something to do. Entertain me. Write me stories. Draw me chibi pics. Tell me how your day was. Tell me what I've been missing since I stopped paying attention to LJ three months ago. Pimp me a series. Pimp a game to me. Music. Tell me what you want me to upload next. Demand icons (which will take me forever to make). Demand journal banners. Anything? ;_;

*goes back to work*
19th-Apr-2004 10:14 am - how many gamers do I have on my list?
Real men wear pink-rimmed glasses
Just out of curiousity, since this has always been a source of veryveryvery slight angst for me. How many people on my friends list are gamers? (Or even those that aren't but who read my blog anyway.)

I haven't really had time to play at all in the past few months (year/s?) so I leech a lot of gaming satisfaction by reading about it from others, except if you play games I don't want to be spoiled for of course (like Suikoden 3 or Xenosaga). This isn't a demand to tell you to start talking about your gaming, but I'm just really curious to know who plays. You don't have to play a lot, even if you've played only a handful of games in your life (then I'll have to nag you to play more! XD) then I still want to know.

And if you are, what game are you playing currently? Or if you're not playing anything, what was the last game you played? And if you have a favorite, which one is it?

This still includes people I know who play, just because I'd want to know what you're favorite game is or what game you're currently playing. (Except if you're cugami, who sucks and is probably still stuck playing MUD. :P And if you're luminata has your SoD game arrived yet?)

:: Gah! Damn you, Mura. I had utterly no intentions of downloading 127, but now I must for the Akutsu and Taichi cuteness. =/ Or I can just wait for the subs, since I'll be downloading them anyway for the sake of completing the series.

:: The Gokusen anime ends on episode 13. I would complain, but I suppose with the new season starting and all the new titles coming out, I should be thankful that so many of the series' I follow are ending.

:: Monster preview up. For people who do not know anything about the series, I can't exactly say the preview would help make others want to see it.

:: Have watched more of Area 88 and Gash Bell. More thoughts on this later. [info]soubiless and [info]thistle_chaser talking about Heatguy J has made me want to rewatch the series (of what episodes I have). So watch it again I shall. Claire! ♥

Or I'll probably skip to episode 9. Because I love episode 9. ^_^ And episode 6, because it has one of my favorite Claire scenes so far. <3 And uhm... I'm almost fangirling again. Oh no! say the people who had to go through this the first time around. Nyah. :P

Edit: Oops. That would be episode 8, not 9. My bad.

Useless trivia about me picked up while I was going through old posts. )
