Firefox: multiple profiles / bookmarks

Ok. I was in the middle of writing this post when I spotted the news on the Chrono Trigger remake. Got majorly sidetracked of course. Random useless info forthcoming. Hope it's useful to someone at least.

Where are your bookmarks in Firefox 3
For those who 1) use Firefox and 2) reformat their PC on a regular basis, then you're probably used to backing up your bookmarks by backing up the bookmarks.html from your Firefox profiles folder. Now for those who already upgraded to Firefox 3, it actually handles bookmarks differently than the previous versions. Bookmarks are now stored in the places.sqlite file found on the same folder as bookmarks.html.

I did not know this when I reformatted my PC a month ago. It's a good thing I tend to backup the entire profiles folder. Once I have the fresh install though I tend to only copy back my bookmarks.html file, so I spent a good 10-20 minutes being annoyed when no matter what I did, Firefox wouldn't update my bookmarks when the correct bookmarks.html was already copied into the profiles folder.

So yes, remember kids, places.sqlite has your bookmarks now. If you want to set up Firefox so that it updates both the sql db and the bookmarks.html file, you can learn how to do so here.

How to open multiple profiles in Firefox at the same time
Debi and Em have asked me about this before, but it's always when they're over at my place and always in passing. I use 5 profiles for Firefox, each designated for a particular task. One is for normal use, one is for handling downloads, another for surfing art sites, etc.etc. I just find it much easier to handle tabs and bookmarks this way.

Now Firefox normally doesn't give you the option to open two profiles at the same time, but you can override this by using the firefox -no-remote -ProfileManager string on the command line. This will pop up the profile manager for Firefox, and let you open another profile while a current one is still running.

You can also update the Target field on a shortcut icon on your desktop/quick launch with the same command so that it pops up the profile manager without you having to go to the command line.

3. When people mentioned Squalo appearing in 199 I thought there'd be a scene where they'd acually show up somewhere. Video!Squalo DOES NOT COUNT. I feel cheated. D:

4. WTB a Yamamoto doing some kickassery with NO water at his disposal.

Rawr. Bored like you wouldn't believe. Currently PCless as my pc is at the shop having its motherboard changed (or the power supply, or both) depending on what's causing my 500gb drive to disappear from time to time. I was originally assuming it was the power supply since I had three drives mounted on the cpu (having too many external drives = too many cables), hopefully neither will cause very much to get changed.

So what have I been doing while I go through pc withdrawal? Reformatting my old PC is what. Since it'll be transferred downstairs to take the place of that literally ancient pc that they're using for work.

Also watching Matantei Loki Ragnarok. Apparently I never finished watching it before (like I never finished watching a lot of series), and it was one of the few series' I had on CD that would play on my dvd player.

I keep meaning to make an anime post (and D keeps bugging me to make one), but I'm lazy and now I have an excuse not to. Though if you haven't already, everyone really should pick up the new Macross series.

Holiday tomorrow. I don't think I'll get my PC back by today. DDD:

Oh. And Nintendo DS players. The World Ends With You is the game you should be playing. Really. >:E I love the art and the dialogue and the music for this game. I wish it had more characters so I could stare at the art some more. As it is, cutscenes kind of take forever for me to go through because I just keep admiring the art, even if I've seen Neku a gazillion times prior. BTW, I thought Rhyme was a guy until Day 4. WTF.

Will have to make icon from that game once I get my PC back.

Just in case anyone on my flist who plays WoW actually missed it. The WoWInsider article for it is a funnier read though.

And since I'm already posting, have returned to playing WoW as my once again absence from LJ probably already proves. My 70 alliance warlock is temporarily put on stasis while I concentrate on my shaman hordie on another server (namely with sesame_seed and her posse).

Soooo... *prods flist* Anyone tired of playing their mains and want to level a new toon on another server? (Or if you have a hordie you can always transfer servers.) We're lots of fun I promise! :D We wanted to see if we could get enough people to do the 10-man raids with people we all know. (25-man would be nice, but let's concentrate on the more achievable goal.) It's all the more fun and laid back that way. More room for error when you botch up in a raid. :P I run with a pretty casual raiding guild on my alliance server, but even so, the first time I was put on fel duty for the Maulgar fight at Gruul's I was utterly mortified. Q_Q DID NOT have macros ready for that first fight.

Would say more, but it always feels weird to be posting on LJ again. So I leave you with random screencaps from when I was leveling with caillen's paladin the other day.

We heard Thrall was in town while killing the unsuspecting wildlife in Nagrand, and then his advance guard came thrumping past us. So we decided to try blending in. As you can see, it didn't quite work. :O

Reborn doujinshi

Hello insomnia. Welcome back old friend. I will now attempt to survive the day whilst completely braindead. I owe people email/lj replies, have been rather occupied all weekend, but will attempt to reply to a few during random bouts of lucidity throughout the day.

For now, image heavy post since it requires minimal brainpower.

I normally don't do this, but I just had to take a pic of this particular stack of doujinshi. Henceforth to be remembered as the package where the Philippine Post Office TAXED ME WAY TOO MUCH for some porn. I've never been taxed for my manga or doujinshi before, so I was pretty much DDD: at them when I picked this up.

Most of it is Initial D doujinshi (Ryousuke/Keisuke ). I reallyreally wanted to splurge on Gintama and Reborn djs at the time, but there was a reason I got the IniD ones instead. D: I got the Acchicchi (Kanegae Shouko) collection mostly because I had never heard of the circle before and was curious to see if it would be worth getting her individual djs in the future. I probably won't because she mostly does Reborn/Lambo, but the anthology was a pleasant surprise and had me laughing a lot while flipping through it. There were a lot of completely random CPs which alone made it well worth it. I would not mind buying another anthology of her stuff if she ever releases another one.

Anyway, wanted to share a few of the more random gag stuff in the anthology. Subpar pics behind the cut. My scanner is currently still in its box, so I just took pics of a few random scenes. Will get around to scanning some of the more amusing stories once I hook the scanner up. Still waiting for Em to read Reborn so I can ~~force~~ ~~make~~ ~~slavedrive~~ ask her to translate these.

Sorry for the blurry quality on most of the pics, I figured I'd scan these in eventually anyway so I didn't want to spend too much time trying to get decent pics of them.

Snicker. So okay, this one just reminded me of my 1859 fic. In which case, I would totally have to agree with Mukuro on that count. Gokudera does look good in a skirt.

Because Reborn/Hibari is my flavor of the month. (If I wasn't too busy obsessing over 1859 that is.)

Mostly because I like this scene. Guardians with boss!Tsuna! And it does not hurt that I went "what are those two up to back there!" when I saw Yamamoto and Gokudera.

At this point I got tired of taking pics.

Difference between digital art and cg art?

So oh hey, maybe some of the artists on my flist can answer this one? I was looking through Ballistic Publishing's artbooks and the major difference between their Expose line and Exotique line seems to be that the former is for digital art while the other is for CG? (I had originally thought it was pro versus non-pro / semi-pro artists.) I couldn't seem to find anything on this on google, I had always thought digital and cg art was the same thing.

For those not familiar with it - Ballistic Publishing. I just spent the better part of a few hours flipping through their Expose and Exotique books and wibbling incoherently. They are basically artbook collections with digital and cg art from several incredibly talented artists (a lot of which I'm sure some of you would be familiar with, especially those who frequent deviantart). I have probably already made myself broke for the rest of the year so I will have to wait until next year before getting any, but there are already 7 books out total and I can't possibly afford them all. Q_Q

I like the Expose books a lot since they have landscape and structural art on it as well. Someone covet with me!

That christmas wishlist meme

Haha. I could not resist doing this.

Step one: Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes.

It amuses me that Hiruma had it in him to kick Kurita like that injured as he was. Even going so far as to make the medics carry him there just to do that. Somehow I find it even more painful that Hiruma has a towel thrown over his head. Kind of like refusing to show the others that he's in pain.

Love, love how they're all picking on Taki and saying the idiot can't carry the ball at all. I have so much love for Taki and his sheer idiocracy, because he makes me laugh.

I really, really love how much Sena has grown through the series. And this moment, compared to all the other moments in the series that I've fangirled over him, completely and utterly takes the cake. And Hiruma that bastard, for knowing - even if it was the smallest possibility - that if if Sena would say it himself that he'd take the position as quarterback. Just. ♥ Sena doesn't hesitate at all in this one. He's grown so so much. Of all the loser half-pints in anime/manga that learn to get stronger in the course of a series, Sena is probably my favorite of them all.

Have I ever mentioned just how much I love this series? More people on my flist need to read this. Q_Q

First thing's first. What is up with that?! Even Tsuna's hair made a dent on the wall. That is some incredibly high density hair right there.

I am exceptionally glad to see more of TYL!Ryohei, and whatever he and Hibari are having a ~~lover's spat~~ row about kind of amuses me silly. I never really understood Ryohei/Hibari (though I do enjoy whatever art I come across of them), but here's something to feed those that like this pairing, no matter how small. Hey, us fangirls can make something small huge. ~~And please tell me that didn't come out as perverted as I think it did.~~

And a;lsdfkjdsl Gokudera fangirl mode! I have always had (and probably always will have) the most obscene obsession over Gokudera's outfits. This is seriously no exception. That shirt looks like it's leather, though I'm going to assume it isn't. It would just be weird to train in leather Gokudera, wtf. But that zipper is damned sexy. As are those belts. And those gloves. And a;sldfkdj glasses!

I have a lousy memory and I think we've been shown Gokudera wearing glasses before, during a tutoring session I think. But now I can't be sure. =/

P.S. Irie looks really hot in that last shot of him. Can't really be sure without translations for the chapter, but I'd be damned if Irie was able to activate the flame on the Mare ring (I'm assuming he holds one of the mare rings) as his 14 year old self. Being traumatized that one time must have had a really great effect on him... I am actually, dying to see Irie fight. I hope he doesn't disappoint.

Just needed to vent somewhat.

Hiruma. Oh gods. Dear, dear Hiruma. How you utterly and completely break my heart. In a way, I'm not really surprised at the outcome, I was already prepared for Inagaki to throw a shocker like that out (it is one of the many things I love about this series so much), but one can always hope. Even after the first raw pics (and script) came out I was still kind of clinging on to that small possibility, but seeing the HQ scans just DD:

The fracture on his bones. Hiruma's reaction. His expression. The fact that this is one of the very few times that we're really given a glimpse into Hiruma's thoughts. He was completely prepared to play with a broken left arm if he needed to.

Oh Hiruma. My heart breaks for you. Q_Q

Anyone want to help kick me into writing some Reborn fic?

Because I refuse to write smut (and it is the only fic in my head that wants to be written), I opened up a Reborn fic request thread over at the fic journal. I figure I should be able to do most of the requests, since not a lot of people on the flist seem to be following it.

I find that I find writing fic more enjoyable when I do it with someone else's fic prompt. I am weird that way. Because I can do something ridiculously unforgiveable and blame it on someone else! ;D

And as an aside... WHERE IS MY BYAKURAN/MUKURO SMUTTAGE DEAR FANDOM. Q_Q woewoe. It is like the battle of the semes. Of course it would be fun!

Decided to do a quick browse of Persona 3 english fen just to see if - in true fashion - it'd hate me yet again. It does.

So... am I the only one who thinks P3 main character is most seme? D:

And while I'm talking about P3, was there ever an "official" name released for the main character? I named my hero Suou Shura, because I am unoriginal like that, what.

In other news, World of Warcraft has finally spat my soul back out. There is only so much dailies you can take before you get sick and tired of doing them just for the gold when you no longer have anything to use your gold for. I mostly only log on for raids these days, as well as special events, like the Brewfest Festival this month. And so, I will regal you with a screencap of the best Brewfest quest there is. Getting rid of pink elephants, which you can only see when you're dead drunk.

The screen is fuzzy because I had to be drunk to see the elephants, I had the effects turned off (because looking for a tiny rabbit while dead drunk and having a fuzzy screen hurts your head), but I turned it back on to take the screencap. I was no longer in a drunken stupor when I took the cap, otherwise the screen would be fuzzier.

And the things one does when bored. Elyrianna (selfaro's paladin) was running my lowbie mage through ZF and on our way out we aggroed every damned mob remaining in the instance.

The Witchhunt addon was spamming like crazy, (the big yellow text on top) so it covered the huge line of mobs that was in front of me and running after Ely. It was rather funny to see. And excuse the messy UI, my UI is set up for my warlock (my main) who has a ton more skills at her disposal than a level 46 mage. Hence all the empty space at the bottom.

I reallyreallyreally wanted to use spectacled!Izy icon, cause it amuses me greatly. So I write this half-assed gaming post to give me a reason to do so. Well that and I was just full of randomness, and what I really needed was an excuse to make a half-assed gaming post.

Also, seen while reading my clan's message boards in Kingdom of Loathing:

I've done a bit of reading about the new chefstaves and, holy wow, they look awesome! The second tier staves are just amazing, and they're all one-handed. I'm looking forward to upgrading my MP regeneration gear sometime in the future, if I end up ascending again.

I haven't really been playing KoL for a couple of months now, and I just LOLed when reading that, because it sounds so much like something someone in WoW would say. (Never mind that tier 2 gear in WoW is now dung.)

KoL has added so much new continent since the last time I played it's a bit intimidating to start again. Each ascension became so routine before, but I'll have to familiarize myself with the new stuff this time around. It will be fun, just wtfwhatisdis for me. ;P

Aion: Tower of Eternity: New Aion video footage released at this year's E3. The graphics surely doesn't disappoint. While I've always intended to play Aion once it becomes available (in English), I've been of the mind that I'd try it out, not like it very much and then stop playing it. At the moment though, I'd be willing to level a character just so I can travel around the world and go sight-seeing. I kid you not. We get a floating city in the sky! Tell me which race in L2 gives you that! :P

Though NCSoft, LRN2MAC. Because Athene cannot play otherwise. :(

2006 in a nutshell

- I posted a grand total of 25 LJ entries for the entirety of 2006.

- I only finished 3 games for the entire year. Suikoden V, Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana and Final Fantasy XII.

- a good 70% of 2006 was spent playing online games. Mostly Lineage II, with a spattering trials for World of Warcraft, Zera, D&D Online and a bunch of other titles I didn't find very interesting.

- I probably finished watching more anime series' than I recall, but the only one that comes to mind right now is Mushishi and Jigoku Shoujo.

Haha, okay. I can't really think of anything to post here, I just felt the need to post on January 1, since I normally always do. I'm about to leave for the New Years party with the relatives, so don't really have much time to post.

Though old friends should already know this, every year we hold a New Year's play on our father's side of the family (the children and grandchildren perform) and at the same time, everyone is required to dress up depending on the year's theme. Last year we did Mulan and had a Chinese dress code. This year's theme is 50's vintage, since we're doing Grease as our New Year's play. My brother's (Carlo) costume is awesome. I end up laughing everytime I see him. It's so FPJ. >:3

Where I live

Was making something for my sister's gifts to her bearers (ring, coins, etc.) and I needed to use my table for it, which I found buried under piles of stuff related to work and wedding preparations. I kind of went DDDDD: looked around and realized the entire area was a mess, which made me go DDDDD: even more.

This is the place in the house where I practically live in. I go to my bedroom merely to sleep/change. My computer's here, as well as my PS2, and the table I use to keep work-related files in (but which I don't really work in). So yea, welcome to my life. XD

It's not as messy when I look at it from the photos, but when I turn around and look at it again it still makes me go DDD: And I swear the walls aren't as sickly green as the photos make them out to be. >:E

The combined mess of my normal living/work mess, plus wedding preparations + holiday preparations + 3 siblings arriving home for the holidays.

And a shot of my bedroom desk, which is currently stuffed with odds and ends. Most of my manga are in boxes, but some I kept on the shelves. And a bunch of stuff (mostly things I wanted to sell), I kept in my sister's room. I had to get them all out (hence why they're all dumped on my desk) when my sister came home for the holidays.

So, I thought I should post at least once before the new year came around, but I haven't really heard anything that I thought post worthy until this. (I tend to just fangirl to people on IM see.) But since Ari (who left me the link) is currently not online, and neither is Mich or Chris (who get the blunt of my gaming fangirl squees), then I now have reason to post! Yey?

Since it was released during the Jump Festa, which I believe was held a week ago, this is probably old news. But I have been stuck under a rock playing Lineage 2 and Final Fantasy 12, so you'll excuse me if I fangirl belatedly.

I still think the character in FF13 Versus is hot, but FFT is my greatest Final Fantasy love. One of the reasons why I was looking forward to FF12 before its release was because it was set in Ivalice (even if it was going to be entirely separate from FFT), though I now like FF12 for very different reasons. The game has just given me yet another reason why I will go a;sdlfkasdj over any new game they release that they deem worthy to set in Ivalice.

But anywaaaay, even if it's just a remake (WHERE IS OUR SEQUEL??? FFT Advance does not count. >:EEEE) I still want to play. Time to buy a PSP. D:

In Final Fantasy 12 news, I am almost done with the game. I had expected the Ridorana Cataract to be the second to the last dungeon, and it apparently is. Since the last dungeon won't allow me to leave once I enter it, I'm trying to finish all my hunts and gather the optional espers before entering. Except my party is level 59 and one of the rare games in the deeper reaches of the Lhusu mines nearly wiped out my party. I only realized after I'd ran away and exited the mines, that I completely forgot to change battle tactics while taking it on. (The game is so unbelievably easy most of the time that I tend to not bother outside of the normal attacking, buffing, healing, etc.). Must go back and take revenge! >:E

A more detailed game blog once I finish it I guess. I'm looking to finish the game before 2007, since I'll be busy in January and I'd hate to leave it hanging.

sofar IS MY HERO. *___*

Long story short, I reformatted my PC, couldn't get my speakers to work, and she helped me detect my soundcard so now I have sounds (yes I cannot do something this simple)! HERO. <3

Other than that, hello, Lineage 2 has eaten my soul yet again. Hope everyone's doing good! I am well aware that at least 5 games that I've been waiting for all year has already come out (and more than in Okami's case). I have them. Am I playing them? No.

DAMN L2.

Though have managed to play (a lot of) Sengoku Basara 2, as well as gotten halfway through Tales of Legendia. Very behind in games, yes.

re: the locked bathroom door

The good news: I was not dumb enough to lock myself out of my bathroom!

The bad news: I was dumb enough to think I'd locked myself out of my bathroom. (That explains why I couldn't unlock it!)

As it turns out, something suddenly caused my doorknob to get stuck, so you now have to apply more force to turn the knob. A whole lot more than I'm used to having to do so, which is why I thought it was locked. Seriously. You would have thought it was locked too!

1. E-mail address. Recently moved webhosts and I've not gotten around to setting up certain e-mail addresses. So for the meantime, I've reactivated my livejournal address (and it's been spam free so far, so I'll probably keep it activated) so people no longer have to wonder which email address I'm currently using.

Also included in the rumor mill is Kingdom Hearts 3. Note that none of these have been confirmed, but the possibility of a Colossus sequel ♥! And ~~yaoicesty pr0n goodness~~ Fatal Frame 4! And Silent Hill 5! And who would not die for new footage of Assassin's Creed and DMC4. Here's to hoping that there is new footage/trailers.

3. Bastardisation of the English language, ie. internet lingo. I have seen the term 'Srsly' used for a long time now, and for some reason, I always used to read this as 'surely' until I realized just a month or so ago that hoh look, there's a stray S in the middle. So I have obviously been reading this all wrong, and while I never really knew what it was supposed to mean, I just assumed that it meant 'seriously', because I am a genius mofo like that. I saw it again while browsing my flist earlier and decided I should not count on my genius deductions and look it up, or more to the point, to find out where the hell it came from. So in case you are like me and did not know what the term 'Srsly' meant until a few minutes ago, here's a link to Encyclopedia Dramatica's enlightening entry to the term. [SRSLY].
